Biren Singh Returns from Delhi, Says BJP Central Leadership to Decide on Government Formation

Imphal, October 14: Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Tuesday said that the law and order situation in the state has improved following the imposition of President’s Rule, even as discussions continue at the national level regarding the formation of a new government.

Speaking to reporters at Imphal Airport after returning from Delhi—where he and 25 BJP MLAs had been camping for over a week—Singh stressed that all key political decisions concerning Manipur would be taken by the BJP’s central leadership, not local party leaders.

“Everyone should remember that the BJP is a national party, not a regional one. Decisions are made at the national level, and we didn’t go to Delhi to play,” Singh remarked, reiterating that the delegation met central leaders to convey the people’s concerns, including issues related to internally displaced persons (IDPs), highway connectivity, and the need for restoring a popular government in the state.

He said the President’s Rule was invoked after the deterioration of law and order, a situation the state has faced multiple times in the past. “After the imposition of President’s Rule, the situation has improved,” he added, noting that representatives of all communities are in dialogue with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Targeting the Congress, Singh accused the opposition of political opportunism, saying, “Earlier they demanded the government’s removal, and now they are calling for the assembly’s dissolution. We will not act on their wishes but on what the people want.”

President’s Rule was imposed in February 2025, following Biren Singh’s resignation amid criticism of his government’s handling of the ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities.
