New Delhi: Dr. Achingliu Kamei, an Associate Professor at Delhi University’s ARSD College, has achieved a significant milestone as her poetry finds a place in the prestigious English syllabus at Jamia Millia Islamia University.
Under the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Dr. Kamei’s evocative poems “Trees of My Ancestors” and “Whispers from Mother Earth,” taken from her acclaimed work Songs of Raengdailu, will be studied as part of the BA (Major) programme in the Department of English.
Hailing from Tamenglong village, Dr. Achingliu Kamei is renowned for her literary contributions that delve into themes of identity, nature, and cultural heritage, reflecting the rich tapestry of Northeast Indian literature.
Apart from her poetic achievements, Dr. Kamei has authored several notable books, including “Naga Tales, Dawn” (2017), “Headspace, The Mind’s Realm” (2022), and “Restless Oceans” (2024). She is currently working on two forthcoming publications: “Roots and Wings”, a collection of Senryu, Haiku, and Haibun, and “Aroma of Kindness”, scheduled for release later this year.
In recognition of her literary prowess and contributions to academia, Dr. Achingliu Kamei was honored with the International Women of the Year 2022 award by the Centre for Professional Advancement, Delhi.
The inclusion of Dr. Kamei’s poetry in Jamia Millia Islamia’s syllabus not only enriches the educational experience for students but also highlights the university’s commitment to embracing diverse literary voices from across India.
This development is expected to stimulate scholarly engagement and foster a deeper appreciation for indigenous literature among students and academics alike.
