Imphal: Tribal leaders from various groups have approached the Chief Minister of Manipur today to express their concerns over what they perceive as efforts by major tribes to marginalize their identities. They criticized a complaint filed by Paominlen Haokip with the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), alleging that their signatures were forged to implicate them in the complaint without their consent.
The leaders, representing groups including Kharam Union Manipur, Kharam Pallen Village Authority, Federation of Haomee, Laikot Phaijol Village Authority, Kabui Union Manipur, Kom Tribe Organisation Valley, and Kangchup Chiru Village Authority, have requested that this complaint be invalidated.
The Federation of Haomee (FoH) has also presented a memorandum to the Chief Minister, asking the government to address Haokip’s proposal for establishing a Separate Tribal State or Union Territory within Manipur. FoH wants this issue discussed in the current assembly session and is calling for legal action against Haokip. The memorandum supports the Chief Minister’s stance and opposes Haokip’s proposal.
FoH disputed the historical and territorial claims made by Kuki groups, asserting that regions like Chasad and Mombi Hills were acquired under specific tax arrangements and questioning the legitimacy of Kuki settlement claims from the 1830s and 1840s. They accused Kuki organizations of altering historical records and warned that creating a separate Kuki administration could disrupt Manipur and affect its indigenous populations.
The memorandum urged the Manipur Government to reject the Kuki state proposal, deeming it impractical and based on questionable grounds.
Sadly no concrete solution have reached after several months of strife in Manipur. Hoping for peace soon!
The never ending tripartite struggle of Manipur continues. Govt plays with fire everytime.
