Imphal:   Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has strongly criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her recent comments about the Northeast, labeling as “highly unbecoming of a political leader.” Singh accused Banerjee of trying to incite hate and violence with her remarks.

Singh stated, “How dare Didi threaten the Northeast? I condemn such irresponsible remarks in the strongest terms. She must publicly apologize to the Northeast and the rest of the nation.” He also urged Banerjee to stop “inciting violence and hatred with divisive politics,” emphasizing that “threats of violence” should not be made from public platforms.

Singh’s condemnation follows earlier criticism from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who accused Banerjee of making provocative statements that could incite unrest in Assam and Delhi. Sarma criticized Banerjee’s “politics of failure” and warned her against attempting to destabilize India. “Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don’t show us your bloodshot eyes. Don’t try to set India on fire with your divisive politics. Such language does not suit a leader like you,” Sarma stated in a post on X.

Other Assam BJP leaders, including senior leader Piyush Hazarika and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, echoed Sarma’s sentiments, condemning Banerjee’s remarks as reflective of an “anti-national” attitude unfit for someone in her position.

Banerjee’s controversial comments were made during a speech at the foundation day celebration of the Trinamool Congress’s student wing, where she criticized the BJP for the violence during the recent ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ protest march.

In a provocative speech, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee drew a controversial parallel between current protests and the student-led unrest in Bangladesh that led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. Banerjee expressed her admiration for Bangladesh’s cultural ties but emphasized its distinct political landscape. She further criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that he is orchestrating unrest across India, and warned that if violence spreads in Bengal, it could ignite conflict in other states including Assam, the North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi.
