Lallianzuala Chhangte has been appointed as the new captain of Mumbai City FC for the upcoming 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season, the club announced on Sunday. He takes over from Rahul Bheke, who has moved back to Bengaluru FC after guiding Mumbai City to the ISL trophy last season.
Chhangte, who joined the Islanders in January 2022, has been a key player, scoring 29 goals and providing 16 assists in 79 appearances. In the 2023-24 season, he made history by being the first Indian player to achieve over 15 goal contributions in two consecutive seasons, with 10 goals and six assists.
He has been crucial in Mumbai City’s recent successes, including their ISL League Winners’ Shield victory in the 2022-23 season and their ISL Cup win the following season.
Mumbai City FC will start their ISL campaign with a repeat of last season’s final, facing Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on September 13.
This is an exciting development for Mumbai City FC! Lallianzuala Chhangte has been a standout player, and his appointment as captain reflects his importance to the team. It’ll be interesting to see how he leads the team after such a successful campaign last year.
