Senapati: The Senapati-Phaibung Road Development Committee has formally requested the Naga People’s Organization (NPO) to intervene in the stalled NLCPR road construction project. The project, which aims to improve the road connecting Senapati and Phaibung, was sanctioned in 2001 under the Prime Minister’s initiative to develop underprivileged regions with a 90% central and 10% state funding pattern.

The committee, led by President N. Benjamin Tao and Secretary Wilson Pao Th, expressed frustration over the delays and lack of progress. Despite the 25 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) being awarded the construction contract in 2001, the road remains incomplete after 21 years. The committee highlighted that despite numerous requests, there has been no significant work done or repairs made.

Further complicating matters, a recent directive from Regina Hongray, Joint Secretary (Work), Government of Manipur, orders the Chief Engineer PWD to take over the project from the 25 BRTF. This decision was made without consulting the road development committee or the 18 villages involved, raising concerns about transparency and project oversight.

The Senapati-Phaibung Road Development Committee is now appealing to the NPO to support their efforts in ensuring the project’s completion and addressing these concerns with the relevant authorities.
