Attack in Manipur’s Moirang: 1 Killed, 5 Injured

Bishnupur:   A long range rocket attack, allegedly carried out by suspected militants, struck the residence of former Chief Minister M. Koireng Singh on Sendra Road, Moirang, in Bishnupur district on Friday afternoon, resulting in one fatality and five injuries.

The victim, identified as 70-year-old RK Rabei Singh of Moirang Pheewangbam Leikai, was preparing for the Asthi ceremony at the residence when the missile exploded, causing his death on the spot.

The injured individuals are Salam Nanao (40), of Sendra Road; Galena Mairembam (13), of Sendra Road; Rajeev alias Bobo (58), of Sendra Road; Kongjengbam Jogindro (52), of Moirang Okshongbung; Ngangom Ibobi(65), of Moirang Okshongbung.

It is the second attack that was fired in the district on Friday.

Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti Singh, CAF & PD Minister Susindro Meitei and senior police officials promptly arrived at the scene to evaluate the situation. The missile, believed to be a sophisticated long-range bomb, has triggered concerns, and authorities have launched an investigation.
