Paris: Praveen Kumar has secured a significant victory at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, winning the gold medal in the Men’s High Jump T64 event. The 21-year-old from Noida achieved a personal best jump of 2.08 meters, which also set a new Asian record.
Kumar’s performance stood out as he cleared several heights on his first attempt, demonstrating remarkable consistency throughout the event. His jump of 2.08 meters, made in a field of six competitors, earned him the top spot on the podium.
Derek Loccident from the USA earned the silver medal, while Temurbek Giyazov of Uzbekistan took the bronze.
This gold medal adds to Kumar’s previous achievements, including a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. His success is a key part of India’s strong showing at the Paris Games, with the country aiming for a total of 30 medals.
