Imphal: The Manipur Police have introduced a new Anti-Drone System to strengthen the state’s defenses in response to a recent rise in drone and rocket attacks targeting civilians. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Manipur Police Headquarters today, where IGP Intelligence K. Kabib and IGP Administration K. Jayanta Singh addressed the ongoing security challenges. They reported that investigations are in progress with close coordination between intelligence units and defense forces.

During a press briefing, Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) K. Kabib outlined the enhanced security measures. He reported that a new anti-drone system is now in place and additional anti-drone weapons are being acquired. “We are closely monitoring the situation with senior officers on the ground,” Kabib stated. He also mentioned that army helicopters are conducting aerial patrols and security personnel are stationed in high-risk areas.

In Jiribam district, militants attacked Nungchapi village on Saturday, resulting in the death of 63-year-old Kulendra Singha. Additionally, clashes near Rashidpur village between local volunteers and armed assailants led to the death of B. Lakhikanta Sharma. Police later found the bodies of three armed miscreants in camouflage uniforms, although further details are pending.

Kabib also addressed recent attempts to seize arms from the 7th Manipur Rifles and 2nd Manipur Rifles, noting that security forces successfully dispersed the mob. During the return of reinforcements from the 7th MR, they came under fire, injuring two police personnel—Inspector Kh. Henery and Constable Issac Gangmei—who were evacuated to Shija Hospital.

In combing operations conducted on Saturday morning in Loibol Khullen and Tingkai Khullen, significant quantities of advanced arms and ammunition were seized. This cache included nine sophisticated weapons, a modified sniper rifle, 21 types of ammunition, 21 explosives and grenades, and a wireless communication device.

The police have launched a social media monitoring unit to identify and address individuals inciting violence. Kabib warned that those engaging in such activities will face legal consequences.
