Despite the ongoing unrest in the state, Manipur claimed victory today in the 63rd Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, defeating Meghalaya in a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regular time. This marks Manipur’s first Subroto Cup win in 43 years.

Manipur, represented by T.G English School, took the lead in the 32nd minute through Namdigong, who scored from a goalmouth scramble. Meghalaya, represented by Mynken Christian Higher Secondary School, equalized in the 64th minute when Banpliebok Khongjoh, who was later awarded the Best Player of the tournament, calmly converted a penalty. The penalty was awarded after Manipur’s Heroba was shown a red card for handball.
