Imphal, Sept 17: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh launched the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign today at the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The event was organized by the Department of Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) of the Government of Manipur.

In his address, Chief Minister Singh highlighted that the campaign reflects the people’s desire for a dignified, clean life in a strong India and Manipur. He expressed optimism that the Swachh Bharat Campaign, held annually with renewed hope and ambition, would contribute to national and state development.

Singh elaborated on the five categories of the 2024 campaign: Cleanliness Target Units (Black Spots), Public Participation, Awareness and Advocacy (Swachhata Mein Jan Bhagidari), Preventive Health Checkups and Social Security Coverage (Safai Mitras Suraksha Shivirs), Mass Scale Cleanliness Drive (Shramdhaan), and Swachh Bharat Diwas 2024. He emphasized the importance of public involvement in identifying and cleaning priority areas and noted that success depends on community participation. The campaign also includes provisions for frontline workers, such as free health checkups and PPE kits.

Singh called for collective action, urging citizens to set aside differences and contribute to the cleanliness drive as a civic duty. He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the Ministry of Home Affairs’ initiative to open 16 new Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandars, enhancing access to essential goods at reasonable prices.

Commissioner of MAHUD, M. Joy, noted that Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 is being launched across India, including Manipur. He highlighted that the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban and Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin were initiated in 2014 under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. The theme for this year’s campaign, “Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata,” underscores cleanliness as both nature and culture. Joy emphasized the need for widespread voluntary community support to achieve the campaign’s goals, targeting both valley and hill districts of the state.

The launch event was attended by various officials, including Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and MAHUD administrative staff, all underscoring the importance of unified efforts in achieving cleanliness and supporting the initiative.
