New Delhi, Sept 29: President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the first edition of the Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav at Rashtrapati Nilayam, Secunderabad on Saturday.
In her address, the President stressed the importance of preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage, calling it a collective responsibility. She highlighted the cultural diversity of the North-Eastern states, noting that their folk dances, music, art, and traditional attire are essential parts of the nation’s heritage.
The President explained that the Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav aims to help citizens better understand the traditions and communities of the North-East. She expressed hope that the event would promote cultural exchange and serve as a bridge between the North-East and southern India. President Murmu also conveyed her confidence that the festival would empower North-Eastern artisans, artists, and communities by showcasing their unique traditions and talents.
The eight-day festival is being organized by Rashtrapati Nilayam in partnership with the Ministry of Development of the North-East Region and the Ministry of Culture. It is the first event dedicated entirely to the cultural heritage of the North-Eastern states, including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Verma, the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Governors of the North-Eastern states, and the Minister of State for DONER were present at the inauguration.
