Ukhrul, Oct 2: Tensions escalated between groups from Hunphun and Hungpung villages in Ukhrul district today over a longstanding land dispute, leading to a deadly confrontation. Gunfire was exchanged, resulting in the deaths of two and multiple injuries. The situation remains volatile as authorities work to control the violence.
In response, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Ukhrul has imposed a prohibition order effective from 9:30 AM, restricting movement in both villages and banning activities that could threaten public order. These restrictions will stay in place until further notice.
To curb the spread of misinformation and maintain peace, internet and mobile data services in Ukhrul district were suspended for 24 hours from 1:20 PM today.
Authorities have deployed additional security forces to the area and are closely monitoring the situation. Further updates are expected as the situation continues to evolve.
