KOHIMA, Oct 4: The Anglo-Poula (Chakhesang) Dictionary was officially released today at the Conference Hall of the Art and Culture Department in Kohima. The event was led by former MLA Deo Nukhu, who also serves as the MLA and Convener of the Chakhesang Poula Literature Committee.
Speaking at the event, Nukhu highlighted the essential role of language in preserving cultural heritage, asserting, “Language is your identity, so it is important to develop and preserve our language.” He recognized the Art and Culture Department as the guardian of Naga culture and traditions, emphasizing that everyone shares a responsibility to protect their languages in both oral and written forms. He expressed his hope that the new Poula dictionary would strengthen the collective identity of the Naga people and contribute to the preservation of their unique languages.
Dr. Imlienla Imchen, an Assistant Professor at Nagaland University, noted that the dictionary is the result of collaborative work by scholars, language experts, and the Art and Culture Department. She sees this publication as a vital step in documenting and developing the Poula language and literature for future generations.
