Imphal, Oct 8: Manipur Congress president, K Meghachandra Singh, did not attend the scheduled interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday in a money laundering case. According to the Manipur Congress, Singh only received the summons on the same day he was expected to appear.
Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, Singh’s counsel and an Executive Member of the AICC (Law Department), confirmed that the Congress leader had been summoned and that they intend to challenge the matter legally in court. However, the party stated they were unaware of the specific allegations against Singh.
The ED has instructed Singh to appear before an assistant director in New Delhi on October 7 at 10:30 AM to provide evidence and submit documents related to an ongoing investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), led by the agency’s Special Task Force.
The Congress leader was quick to criticize the summons on social media platform X, he wrote, “K. Meghachandra Singh, MLA and President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, has been speaking out fearlessly and aggressively against the non-biological PM, the Union Home Minister, the Chief Minister of Manipur, and the BJP, exposing the manner in which they have destroyed Manipur since May 2023.”
“Today he has received summons from the ED. This is nothing but the politics of vendetta, vengeance, harassment, and revenge. This action is to cover up the Union Govt’s colossal failures in the state – reflected in Mr. Narendra Modi’s refusal to visit the state since it blew up 17 months back. Those who are afraid intimidate. INCIndia will NEVER be silenced,” he added.
In response to the ED Summon served, Manipur Congress President K Meghachandra said, “ I am very surprised today that I got a summon letter from ED. I am surprised and confused about how and why I got a summon letter from ED”.
