New Delhi, Oct 10: Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has once again claimed the top spot on Forbes India’s 2024 list of the 100 richest individuals.
Ambani’s net worth jumped by $27.5 billion this year, reaching $108.3 billion, making him the second-largest gainer in dollar terms and the 13th wealthiest person in the world. His announcement of bonus shares for Reliance investors, as part of a Diwali gesture, further strengthened his position as India’s richest person.
Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, followed closely behind, recording the biggest gain on the 2024 list. His wealth jumped by $48 billion to $116 billion, marking a strong comeback after the 2023 Hindenburg Research controversy. His strategic move to appoint family members in key positions further strengthened his business empire.
The total net worth of India’s top 100 richest individuals soared 40% to $1.1 trillion, up from $799 billion last year. This significant increase was fueled by strong stock market gains, a wave of IPOs, and rising mutual fund investments.
According to Forbes, more than 80% of those on the list saw an increase in their fortunes, with 58 individuals adding $1 billion or more. The 30% rise in the BSE Sensex over the past year contributed significantly to the wealth growth of India’s wealthiest.
