Five Under-Trial Prisoners Escape from Morigaon District Jail in Assam

GUWAHATI, Oct 11:  Five under-trial prisoners reportedly escaped from the Morigaon District Jail in Assam during the intervening night of Friday. 

All of the escapees were facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and have been identified as Saifuddin, Ziarul Islam, Nur Islam, Mafidul, and Abdul Rashid.

According to reports, the prisoners broke the iron bars of their cell and used blankets, bed sheets and other materials to scaled the nearly 20 foot high jail walls.

Following the incident, authorities initiated an investigation to understand how the escape occurred. A manhunt is currently underway to locate the fugitives.
