SENAPATI, Oct 12: The Indian Army, continuing its efforts toward community empowerment under Operation Sadbhavana, recently inaugurated a fully-equipped modern computer lab at the PK Shedu Revival Foundation Children’s Home in Kathikho Karong village, along with a Skill Development Centre in Taphou Pudunamei village, Senapati district, Manipur.
The computer lab at the orphanage, launched to address the shortage of advanced digital resources, is equipped with seven computers, a printer, and a projector, providing children access to essential digital literacy tools. Senior Indian Army officials attended the inauguration ceremony, where they were joined by village chiefs from Karong and nearby areas who praised the Army’s ongoing commitment to uplifting local communities. This facility aims to equip the youth with valuable information technology skills, expanding their career prospects.
Similarly, the new Skill Development Centre in Taphou Pudunamei village focuses on empowering local women, including widows and Veer Naris, by offering skills in stitching and embroidery. This centre is outfitted with 15 sewing machines, three embroidery machines, chairs, tables, storage almirahs, and whiteboards for effective training sessions. By enabling women to acquire skills that support self-reliance, the centre opens opportunities for sustainable income within the community.
Through these impactful initiatives, the Indian Army reinforces its dedication to local development, fostering both educational growth and employability for the people of Manipur.
Q. What is Operation Sadbhavna?
A. Operation Sadbhavana (meaning “goodwill” in Hindi) is an initiative undertaken by the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir to promote peace, development, and harmony in the region. It began in the late 1990s as part of a broader effort to win the hearts and minds of the local population amidst ongoing militancy and conflict.
Key aspects of Operation Sadbhavana include:
1. Education Initiatives: The Indian Army has established schools, provided scholarships, and arranged educational tours for students from Jammu and Kashmir to different parts of India. These efforts aim to bridge the gap between the region and the rest of the country.
2. Infrastructure Development: Projects under Sadbhavana include building roads, community centers, bridges, and other infrastructure in remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir. This has helped improve connectivity and access to essential services.
3. Healthcare: The Indian Army conducts medical camps, provides healthcare facilities, and supports local hospitals in the region, addressing the healthcare needs of people in remote areas.
4. Youth and Women Empowerment: Various programs focus on providing vocational training and skill development for youth and women, with an aim to enhance their employment opportunities and improve their quality of life.
5. Community Engagement: The Indian Army engages with local communities through cultural and sporting events, aiming to foster goodwill and mutual trust between the local population and security forces.
Operation Sadbhavana reflects the Indian Army’s role in supporting the socio-economic development of the region while also maintaining security. The initiative has been instrumental in reducing alienation among people and contributing to the peace-building process.
