NEW DELHI, Oct 14: A 19-year-old student from Delhi University, hailing from Manipur, has accused the police of leniently handling her harassment case, as reported by PTI. The student claimed that authorities made it easy for the accused, a cab driver, to secure bail, despite the seriousness of the incident.
According to the student’s account, she was taken hostage by a cab driver from an online aggregator service, who deviated from the intended route and drove her to a remote location with apparent intentions of sexually assaulting her. In a courageous act, she managed to escape and sought help at a nearby police station.
However, the student alleged that the police were slow to act, forcing her to wait for seven hours before her complaint was formally registered. When the First Information Report (FIR) was finally filed, it reportedly included only minor charges, which allowed the accused an easy path to securing bail.
Expressing her frustration to PTI, the student said, “Even though there was a clear and serious threat to my life, the FIR included only minor charges, giving the accused an easy route to bail. The lack of urgency and the lenient handling of my case by the police are deeply concerning.”
