NEW DELHI, Oct 14: Three international flights from Mumbai—two operated by IndiGo and one by Air India—faced disruptions due to fake security threats, leading to significant delays in outbound international flights. The total passenger count on the two IndiGo flights was 258, with one flight already having departed and the other scheduled to resume its journey this afternoon.

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) stated that bomb threats were reported for all three planes, and they are closely monitoring the situation to verify the authenticity of these threats. According to the BCAS, “One IndiGo plane has received clearance to fly, while the other two are expected to be approved soon.”

The first incident involved Air India flight AI119, which was set to travel from Mumbai to New York’s JFK Airport. Due to a security alert, the flight was swiftly diverted to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi early this morning. All passengers and crew were safely evacuated, and the aircraft was relocated to an isolated runway for inspection by a bomb squad and other security agencies. An Air India representative confirmed, “Flight AI119 was diverted to Delhi following a specific security alert, as instructed by the government’s security regulatory committee. All passengers have disembarked and are at the Delhi airport terminal.”

Authorities are currently investigating the threat’s nature, and Air India is working with security personnel to determine the next steps, though no additional updates have been provided by the airline at this time.

Additionally, two IndiGo flights were affected by security threats. Flight 6E1275, bound for Muscat, and Flight 6E56, headed to Jeddah, initiated immediate security protocols. An IndiGo spokesperson noted that both aircraft were moved to isolated areas at Mumbai Airport, following standard procedures. The Muscat flight has already taken off, while the Jeddah flight awaits clearance. The airline reassured that passenger and crew safety remains its highest priority and all necessary measures are being implemented to ensure security.
