SENAPATI, Oct 14:  The United Naga Council (UNC), the apex body representing the Naga community in Manipur, issued a press release today addressing the establishment of a new organization called the “United Tribal Council Manipur” by certain individuals. The UNC expressed concern over the proliferation of these unrecognized groups.

The UNC aims to clarify any confusion arising from the emergence of unmandated organizations, stating its intent “to dispel confusion arising out of the mushrooming of unmandated organisations by prefixing and suffixing ‘United Tribal… All Manipur… Tribal unity, Indigenous Tribal…’ void of representation from the structural form of organisation at the grassroots level.”

Reiterating a prior statement issued on June 16, 2023, on social media and in print media, the UNC underscored that “any narrative issued by the unmandated organisation/union/council does not carry the voice and aspiration of the people.”
