IMPHAL, Oct 21:  The central government has approved the construction of 7,000 homes in Manipur under a special package of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to support families affected by ongoing ethnic violence in the state.

In a letter to Manipur Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi, the Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD&PR ) informed the initiative, which aims to help the state recover from the violence between the non-tribal Meiteis and the tribal Kuki-Zo communities. Dr. Joshi is currently in Delhi, coordinating with officials of the RD&PR on how to implement the project.
