GUWAHATI, Oct 22: A delegation of six prominent musicians from Northeast India recently completed a successful cultural exchange tour in China’s Yunnan Province. The tour, organized by the Consulate General of China in Kolkata, aimed to enhance cultural ties between the two countries.
The delegation, led by renowned composer and conductor James Shikiye Swu, featured musicians Nise Meruno, Alobo Naga, Guru Rewben Mashangva, Nungshitula Pongener, and Merenyangla Pongener. The group showcased their diverse musical talents through performances and interactions with local communities.
The musicians visited various locations, including Kunming, Mangshi City, Longchuan County, and Ruili City. Their activities included cultural exchanges, performances at universities, and engagement with Yunnan’s ethnic heritage.
A major highlight of the trip was their attendance at the “Dynamic Yunnan” dance musical, which celebrated the region’s cultural richness. The tour is part of a series of cultural exchange initiatives led by the Chinese consulate, following similar visits by Indian Buddhist monks, artists, and scholars earlier this year under the China-South Asia Cooperation Forum.
This cultural exchange underscores growing collaboration between Northeast India and Yunnan Province, fostering a deeper appreciation for music and arts across borders.
