SENAPATI, Oct 23:   The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Manipur State Unit has issued a firm statement opposing the proposed construction of fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border in Naga regions without first addressing traditional boundary corrections.

In a press release on Wednesday, the NPF reiterated its previous position from August 5, 2024, regarding the long-overdue Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, which have been pending since 2020.

The NPF urged the Manipur government to conduct elections for the six Manipur Hill Area Autonomous District Councils at the earliest opportunity, following the Cabinet’s decision on June 13, 2024. The NPF expressed gratitude for the Hill Area Committee’s (HAC) recommendation on October 14, 2024, which called for the immediate organization of these long-delayed elections.

The NPF stressed that postponing the elections infringes on the democratic rights of local communities and disrupts effective governance. They maintained that restoring local self-government through timely elections is essential for ensuring justice for the hill area residents. The party remains opposed to any unconstitutional actions that could impede administrative processes.
