IMPHAL, Oct 24: Manipur Police on Wednesday arrested Naorem Rome Singh (46), a resident of Kakching Sumak Leikai, in connection with the robbery at the UCO Bank’s Kakching branch on October 16, 2024. The suspect, armed with a firearm and knife, looted Rs 6.49 lakh from the bank, fleeing on a two-wheeler.
Following a week-long manhunt, police identified and apprehended Rome based on technical analysis, including CCTV footage and questioning of bank staff and customers. During the arrest, police recovered Rs 3,03,500 from the stolen amount, along with a laptop, a two-wheeler, a mobile phone, and other items.
The robbery took place at the Kakching Bazar branch’s cash counter, where Rome held a staff member before escaping. Legal proceedings against him are underway, with police continuing efforts to recover the remaining stolen amount.
