New Delhi, Oct 25: India and Germany have signed a series of key agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation, spanning green hydrogen, technology, and innovation. The agreements, signed in New Delhi today during delegation-level talks, were witnessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
The new agreements include a commitment to exchange and protect classified information and a roadmap for Indo-German collaboration on green hydrogen. Additionally, a mutual legal assistance treaty in criminal matters was signed, along with a memorandum on skill development and vocational education. Three joint declarations were also exchanged, covering employment and labor, research in advanced materials, and a green urban mobility partnership.
Prime Minister Modi, in a joint statement, highlighted India’s commitment to peaceful resolutions in light of the conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia, reiterating India’s stance that issues cannot be solved through war. He praised today’s launch of the innovation and technology roadmap, emphasizing cooperation in critical areas such as artificial intelligence, clean energy, and semiconductors. Modi also called for reforms in multilateral institutions, including the UN Security Council, and stressed the importance of navigation freedom and rule of law in the Indo-Pacific.
Chancellor Scholz noted Germany’s role as India’s largest EU trading partner, emphasizing their shared commitment to innovation, mobility, and sustainability. He voiced support for a comprehensive free trade agreement between India and the EU to further boost economic ties.
Both leaders also attended the CEOs Forum at Hyderabad House, where business-to-business engagement was discussed as a crucial factor in strengthening the India-Germany partnership. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted how India’s growth story aligns with Germany’s expertise in technology, creating a promising foundation for ongoing collaboration.
