ITANAGAR, Nov 1: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Thursday attended the inauguration of the Museum of Valour dedicated to Major Ralengnao Bob Khathing, led by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh.
At the event, Singh commended Arunachal Pradesh for recognizing Major Khathing’s sacrifices, noting his identity as a Manipuri Tangkhul Naga. He highlighted that the Government of Manipur also honors Khathing’s contributions, having set aside Rs 3 crore for a memorial. However, the project is currently on hold as a suitable location is being sought, either at Khathing’s birthplace in Mantripukhri or in a more central area.
Singh explained that the ongoing electoral situation in the state has further delayed the initiative. He recalled Khathing’s heroism when Chinese forces laid claim to Tawang, stating that Major Khathing led his men to hoist the Indian Tricolour and assert Tawang as part of India.
The Chief Minister characterized Khathing as both a national hero and a visionary leader, emphasizing the need to remember his sacrifices. During the inauguration, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tribute to Khathing’s bravery and acknowledged his significant impact on Indian history.
