In a moving tribute, Assam Rifles held a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the memory of soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. On October 31, the force commemorated two historic incidents involving their brave personnel.

On October 31, 1966, an Assam Rifles patrol was ambushed by about 50 MNF insurgents in Khawbung, Mizoram. The patrol mounted a determined counterattack, but Riflemen Lushai Mohan Chakma, Bhim Bahadur Sunar, Dal Bahadur Thapa, Ashwini Sarkar, Om Prakash Lohar, and Hari Lal Giri lost their lives during the encounter.

Similarly, on October 31, 2007, an Assam Rifles team led by Major Ravi Vaish faced an ambush while patrolling in Ukhrul, Manipur. Despite their brave resistance, Major Vaish, Rifleman Gyaneshwar Singh, and Rifleman H Sahini were killed in action.

The wreath-laying was led by the unit’s Commandant, who shared the heroic stories of the fallen soldiers to instill pride among the ranks. A Guard of Honour was presented by 150 Assam Rifles personnel, paying heartfelt tribute to these courageous individuals whose sacrifice continues to inspire the force.
