SENAPATI, Nov 2: Manipur Police on Friday arrested a cadre of the KCP, for his involvement in the assault of two Poumai Naga from Senapati District. The arrested individual is identified as Senjam Suraj Meitei (25) s/o S. Nilakomol Meitei.
The attack occurred in the early hours of October 31, in the Lamsang area, prompting the police to register a case. The suspect is currently being interrogated as part of an ongoing investigation.
The Village Authority Council of Liyai Khullen, Liyai Khunou, and Zhaimai Union Senapati issued a joint statement condemning the assault and robbery committed against the victims, identified as V Hrangao Blesson from Kodom Khullen and Dalou from Liyai Khullen. According to the statement, the victims were physically assaulted, emotionally harassed, and robbed at gunpoint, despite presenting their identity proof. The organizations called for justice, warning that failure to act could lead to significant protests.
Additionally, the Federation of Hao-mee condemned the incident, expressing solidarity with the victims and emphasizing the negative impact such violence has on efforts to unite indigenous communities.
The federation, which promotes fraternity under the theme “Know Your Identity,” cautioned that such acts hinder their mission of fostering solidarity and mutual respect. They urged law enforcement to ensure a thorough investigation, apprehend the perpetrators, and implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
