SENAPATI, Nov 2:     The Senapati District Frontal Organization, Naga People’s Organization (NPO), Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA), and Senapati District Women’s Association (SDWA), has announced a 24-hour shutdown starting at 4:00 p.m. today. The shutdown will be accompanied by a restriction on commercial vehicular movement beyond the Senapati District Headquarters.

This action is in response to the 48-hour ultimatum given to the Manipur government regarding a recent violent assault and extortion incident involving two Poumai youths from Senapati district. The two were reportedly victims of attempted murder and extortion, having been coerced into paying Rs. 61,400 at gunpoint by armed attackers.

In a letter directed to the Chief Minister of Manipur via the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati, the organizations highlighted serious concerns regarding the recent incident involving the two local residents, V. Hrangao Blesson, son of L. Veino from Kodom Khullen Village, and Dalou, son of Hriinii from Liyai Khullen Village. They criticized the lack of intervention from the responsible Civil Society Organization (CSO) representing the affected community, noting that the assailants are attempting to deny their involvement despite the victims being aware of their identities.

Alongside the shutdown, a protest took place at the Traffic Point in Senapati, where the protestors chanted slogans such as “We Want Justice”; “Government of Manipur, Book the Culprit” and “Arambai Tenggol, Confess Your Crime.” These demonstrations underscore the community’s urgent call for accountability and justice amidst the ongoing threats and violence.
