GUWAHATI, Nov 5: Customs officials in Guwahati have seized six cartons of smuggled foreign-origin cigarettes at the Blue Dart Courier Hub located in Abhoyapur.
According to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the seizure occurred on Tuesday, involving repacked cartons of the ‘Esse Light Super Slim’ brand with an estimated value of Rs 68.80 lakh. The Customs Department shared this information in a post on X, and further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
In a related enforcement action, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), along with Delhi Customs (Preventive) and Customs (Airport and General) Commissionerates, recently destroyed around 49 lakh foreign-origin cigarettes, as well as 73 kilograms of NDPS drugs, gutkha, pan masala, and e-cigarettes. These items, which were seized under the Special Campaign 4.0, are collectively valued at approximately Rs 460 crore for violations of the Customs Act, NDPS Act, and the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act.
