IMPHAL, Nov 5: ‘The Yellow Sparrow,’ a memoir by Manipuri transgender writer Santa Khurai, has been shortlisted for the esteemed Rainbow Award at the Rainbow Literature Festival, the largest literary event in South Asia. Translated by Rubani Yumkhaibam and published by Speaking Tiger, Khurai’s work competes in the non-fiction category against ‘Mental Health Journey’ and ‘The Grammar of My Body.’
The award winner will be announced on December 7 at Gul Mohor Park in Delhi during the two-day festival, which showcases a range of works from both established and emerging authors across fiction and non-fiction genres.
Khurai expressed her appreciation for the recognition, stating, “Being shortlisted alongside two exceptional books is already a remarkable achievement.” She hopes that this acknowledgment will motivate other transgender writers, especially those from Northeast India, to share their narratives.
Set to take place on December 7-8, 2024, the Rainbow Literature Festival aims to provide a significant platform for diverse voices in South Asian literature, receiving submissions from writers throughout the region.
