UKHRUL, Nov 6: A grenade was discovered at the entrance of the Zonal Education Office (ZEO) in Ukhrul on Wednesday morning, sparking serious concern within the community.
Ukhrul Police reported receiving information around 9:30 AM about the device, believed to be planted by an unknown miscreant. Acting quickly, the police dispatched a bomb squad, which successfully defused and disposed of the grenade by 4:30 PM, ensuring public safety.
To advance the investigation, Ukhrul Police registered a suo moto case, although no group or individual has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
In response to the discovery, the Ukhrul/Hunphun Village Authority strongly condemned the act. According to their statement, the explosive was planted at the ZEO in Phungretang, in broad daylight. They described this action as a severe threat to the safety of the community and a destabilizing move against institutions committed to educational progress and empowerment.
Qr. H.A. Khayaiwo, headman of Ukhrul/Hunphun Village Authority, voiced deep concern over the incident, emphasizing the ZEO’s vital role in supporting the growth and development of Ukhrul’s youth. As an essential resource center, the ZEO office provides guidance and support to students in Ukhrul and neighboring regions, and any attack on it undermines the community’s vision for a prosperous future.
The Village Authority called on all individuals and groups to respect the sanctity of educational institutions and refrain from actions that instill fear, disturb public order, or hinder community progress. They appealed to law enforcement agencies to carry out a comprehensive investigation and bring those responsible to justice promptly.
Highlighting the collective responsibility to uphold peace and security, the Ukhrul/Hunphun Village Authority encouraged the community to stand united against violence and intimidation.
