The news was shared through the official Miss World Instagram account, where it was revealed that Hakansson “went peacefully, comfortably, and well taken care of.” Her family expressed gratitude for the care she received.
Hakansson, born in Sweden, became a global icon when she won the first Miss World title during the inaugural pageant held in London on July 29, 1951. What was initially planned as a one-time event for the Festival of Britain quickly grew into a globally recognized competition.
