NEW DELHI, Nov 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday highlighted the increasingly borderless nature of terrorism and the need for cutting-edge technology to effectively address the threat.
Addressing the inaugural session of the ‘Anti-Terror Conference-2024,’ Shah said, “The terrorist attacks and their conspiracy are against us in a borderless and invisible manner. If we have to deal with it accurately, then our young officers will have to be equipped with the highest technology, they will have to be trained. We will make it an important part of the training in the coming days.”
In his speech, Shah announced that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is working on a National Counter Terrorism Policy and Strategy, a step aimed at strengthening India’s proactive approach to tackling terrorism. He reiterated that while police remain a state subject, the central agencies will support state forces in gathering information and executing actions.
Shah also reiterated Prime Minister Modi’s firm stance against terrorism, noting that the zero-tolerance policy has gained global acceptance. He paid tribute to the 36,468 police personnel who have lost their lives in service to national security over the years, emphasizing that their sacrifices have contributed to the creation of a strong internal security framework.
The two-day conference, organized by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the MHA, focuses on fostering collaboration among various stakeholders to develop coordinated strategies for countering terrorism. Discussions at the conference will cover topics such as legal frameworks for counter-terrorism, the role of emerging technologies, and international cooperation in dismantling terrorist networks.
The conference brings together senior police officers from across India, as well as experts from fields such as law, forensics, and technology, to discuss key strategies in tackling terrorism.
