JIRIBAM, Nov 11: At least 10 suspected Kuki insurgents were killed in a gunfight with the CRPF in Jiribam district on Monday. The militants attacked the Borobekra Police Station, leading security personnel and police to retaliate.
The clash erupted as security forces engaged the militants, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire. The CRPF, along with other security agencies, had been conducting operations in the area following intelligence on militant activity.
According to Manipur Police, armed militants attacked the CRPF Post at Jakuradhor and the nearby Borobekra Police Station in Jiribam District at around 3 pm today. The CRPF and Civil Police swiftly retaliated, with one CRPF constable, Sanjeev Kumar, suffering a bullet injury. He was evacuated to Silchar Medical College in Assam for treatment.
The intense exchange of fire lasted for about 40-45 minutes before the situation was brought under control. Afterward, security forces recovered the bodies of 10 militants and seized a significant amount of weaponry, including three AK rifles, four SLRs, two INSAS rifles, an RPG, a pump-action gun, bulletproof helmets, and magazines.
A criminal case has been filed, and an investigation is ongoing. Operations to clear the Jakuradhor area of remaining militants continue, with reinforcement teams from Assam Rifles, CRPF, and Civil Police now stationed in the region.
