IMPHAL, Nov 11:  Ten Kuki-Zo MLAs on Sunday have issued a joint statement refuting claims that they have recently met with Chief Minister N Biren Singh. They clarified that no meetings have taken place with him since May 3, 2023, and emphasized they have no intention of meeting him in the future, describing reports suggesting otherwise as “blatant lie.”

The statement, signed by MLAs Haokholet Kipgen (Saitu), Paolienlal Haokip (Saikot), Letzamang Haokip (Henglep), Kimneo Haokip Hangshing (Saikul), Letpao Haokip (Tengnoupal), Ngursanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh), LM Khaute (Churachandpur), Chinlunthang (Singat), and Vungzagin Valte (Thanlon), comes in response to remarks made in the Supreme Court.

According to the MLAs, they were made aware that during the November 8, 2024, Supreme Court hearing, the Solicitor General of India had indicated that the Chief Minister was meeting all Kuki MLAs in an effort to restore peace. The MLAs denied this outright, accusing the Solicitor General’s submission of being “a blatant lie” and misleading the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

They further alleged that Chief Minister N Biren Singh was responsible for orchestrating the recent killing of Zosangkim Hmar on Thursday, intensifying their stance against him. They also condemned the Solicitor General’s “unprofessional conduct” in presenting arguments without verifying facts.

The Kuki-Zo MLAs’ statement underscores the deepening divide between Kuki-Zo representatives and Chief Minister N Biren Singh, as Manipur continues to face prolonged communal tensions.
