NEW DELHI, Nov 12: Following the recent arrest of a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) member in Assam’s Goalpara district, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out new raids in Nagaon on Monday as part of an investigation into an Al-Qaida-linked conspiracy aimed at destabilizing India.
According to a senior NIA official, the agency searched a location in Nagaon district over suspected Al-Qaida activities and connections, resulting in the discovery of multiple incriminating documents.
The NIA also conducted coordinated raids at nine locations across India, targeting individuals suspected of supporting or funding Al-Qaida. The searches, which took place early Monday across Assam, Tripura, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, and Bihar, yielded significant evidence, including documents on financial transactions, digital devices like mobile phones, and other materials linked to terror financing.
These operations are tied to an ongoing 2023 NIA case that investigates an Al-Qaida conspiracy allegedly led by Bangladesh-based operatives. The network is accused of working to expand Al-Qaida’s influence in India by radicalizing vulnerable youth. According to the NIA, many of those targeted in the raids have links to a Bangladesh-based Al-Qaida faction.
