JIRIBAM, Nov 12: Following a deadly clash in Manipur’s Jiribam district on November 10, which led to the deaths of 10 suspected militants, the police have launched a search operation for six missing individuals, including three women and three minors.
During a press briefing at the Manipur Police Headquarters today, Inspector General of Police (Operations) IK Muivah provided details of the assault, which occurred around 2:30 p.m. Militants, armed with RPGs, INSAS rifles, and AK-47s, attacked the security forces, leading to a 45-minute gunfight. “When the firing stopped, we found 10 militants dead and two elderly civilians who had been burnt,” Muivah said.
The missing individuals had been staying in a relief camp at the police station when the attack occurred. Muivah confirmed that reinforcements from Assam Rifles, CRPF, and Civil Police had been deployed to assist in the search. “We have filed an FIR, and a case is under investigation. The CRPF’s response was essential in defending the post during the attack,” he added.
The militants were reportedly wearing military-style attire and came well-prepared for the violence, signaling their intent to escalate the situation. While the security forces contained the attack, the missing individuals’ whereabouts remain unknown. Muivah reassured the public that security measures are being strengthened and the search for the missing persons continues.
