IMPHAL, Nov 13: In response to the growing violence and law enforcement challenges in Manipur, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has deployed an additional 20 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) companies, amounting to approximately 2,000 personnel. The order for the immediate airlifting of these units was issued late Tuesday night, according to official sources cited by The New Indian Express on Wednesday.
The additional CAPF units are being sent to bolster security in the state, following a series of violent incidents, including a deadly confrontation on Monday. In this incident, at least 10 suspected insurgents were killed when armed attackers in camouflage opened fire on the Borobekra police station and a nearby Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Jakuradhor, Jiribam district. A significant cache of advanced weaponry was recovered after the clash.
Under the MHA’s orders, the newly deployed forces will operate under the Manipur government’s command until November 30, with the possibility of extending the deployment depending on the evolving security situation. The violence, particularly the Monday clash in Jiribam, has significantly heightened tensions in the state. Following the incident, further gunfire exchanges were reported across the Imphal Valley between opposing armed groups, as confirmed by the state police.
