NEW DELHI, Nov 14: Dominica has announced that it will confer its highest national honour, the Dominica Award of Honour, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in recognition of his contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and his efforts to strengthen the partnership between India and Dominica. The award will be presented by President of Dominica, Sylvanie Burton, at the upcoming India-CARICOM Summit in Georgetown, Guyana, from November 19 to 21.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office of Dominica, India provided Dominica with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in February 2021 during the global health crisis. The award also acknowledges India’s support under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in areas such as healthcare, education, and information technology, as well as his commitment to promoting climate resilience and sustainable development on the global stage.
Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, expressed that the award is a symbol of the country’s gratitude for Prime Minister Modi’s solidarity during critical times and his partnership with Dominica. He highlighted Modi’s support during the pandemic and emphasized the strong bilateral ties between the two nations. Skerrit also expressed optimism about further advancing the partnership and shared vision of resilience.
In response, Prime Minister Modi accepted the award with gratitude and stressed the importance of global collaboration to tackle pressing challenges like climate change and geopolitical conflicts. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to working alongside Dominica and the Caribbean region in addressing these issues.
