IMPHAL, Nov 14:   Manipur BJP President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi on Thursday appealed for the immediate release of three women and three children, reportedly abducted by militants in Jiribam district on November 11. Describing the abduction of the six family members from Jakuradhor as “deeply unfortunate,” Sharda Devi urged the captors to release the villagers unharmed on humanitarian grounds.

“We, from the BJP, appeal to them (militants) to release the children and women at the earliest,” Sharda Devi said at a press conference at the BJP office. She strongly condemned the escalation of violence against civilians, stating that recent developments have shocked the public and disrupted the peace efforts underway.

Sharda Devi also referenced a meeting with Manipur Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, in which the Governor directed security forces to take action to rescue the captives and address the heightened violence.

Meanwhile, on November 13, civil society groups in Manipur issued a seven-day ultimatum to the state government, demanding action against escalating conflict. Leaders from thirteen organizations submitted a memorandum to the Governor, listing six key demands and warning that failure to meet these demands would result in withdrawing public support for all political leaders and launching mass protests against them. The groups also cautioned that without immediate intervention, they would cease support for national political parties in the state.
