IMPHAL, Nov 15:   Assam Rifles successfully seized a massive haul of illegally transported Areca nuts across multiple operations in Manipur’s Tengnoupal District on November 13. Acting on reliable intelligence, the operations resulted in the interception of 53 trucks and the confiscation of thousands of bags of Areca nuts, with an estimated total value of over Rs 74 crore.

In Narum, Assam Rifles seized 3,400 bags valued at Rs 23 crore, marking the first operation of the day. A subsequent operation in Sita Village led to the confiscation of 255 bags, weighing approximately 20,400 kg and worth Rs 1.76 crore. The next major bust occurred in RRC Village, where 400 bags weighing 32,000 kg and valued at Rs 2.76 crore were recovered. The largest seizure was conducted in Lamlong Khunou, where 6,800 bags weighing 544,000 kg, with an estimated value of Rs 47 crore, were intercepted.

All confiscated Areca nuts have been handed over to the Forest Department in Imphal for further legal action.
