IMPHAL, Nov 15: Acting on a directive from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the Manipur government has transferred three cases related to recent violent incidents in Jiribam district to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The Special Court NIA Manipur has instructed Jiribam and Borobekra police stations to submit all relevant case documents and seized evidence to the NIA for further investigation.
The incidents, which occurred on November 7 and November 11, involved violent confrontations, targeted attacks, and loss of life. The NIA has registered the cases under multiple sections, including the BNS, Arms Acts, and Section 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act).
The first case pertains to the events on November 11 at Jakuradhor Karong, where unknown armed individuals allegedly opened fire on the Borobekra police station and nearby residential homes. Several houses and shops were reportedly set ablaze during this attack.
The second case also involves violence from November 11, specifically an attack on a CRPF post at Jakuradhor Karong and Borobekra police station. The confrontation led to a CRPF constable sustaining injuries, while ten militants were reportedly neutralized in the exchange of gunfire.
The third case concerns the tragic killing of a Hmar woman named Zosangkim in Jairolpokpi (Zairawn) within Jiribam district. On November 7, around 9 pm, unknown assailants allegedly attacked her at her residence, resulting in her death and the subsequent burning of her home.
The court has also ordered the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Jiribam, to transfer any existing judicial records related to these cases from Borobekra and Jiribam police stations to the NIA Court by November 22, enabling the NIA to proceed with its investigations.
