IMPHAL, Feb 23 : In a historic milestone for Manipuri cinema, “Boong” became the first Indian film to win the Best Children’s & Family Film award at the prestigious BAFTA Awards, bringing global recognition to Manipur’s vibrant film industry.
Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi and produced by Farhan Akhtar, the film received the honour at a grand ceremony held at Royal Festival Hall in London. The makers were present to receive the award on the global stage.
The film stars Gugun Kipgen, Bala Hijam Ningthoujam and Angom Sanamatum in prominent roles.
Boong tells the moving story of a schoolboy navigating racial tensions and border challenges in Manipur, driven by resilience and determination to reunite his divided family.
Beyond its cinematic excellence, Boong also reflects the spirit of collaboration among artistes from different communities in Manipur, underscoring how storytelling can foster understanding and shared cultural pride.
