New Delhi, July 23: The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 2:00 PM on Tuesday following repeated disruptions and sloganeering by opposition members demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar and other pressing issues.
In the Lok Sabha, protests erupted soon after the House convened at 11:00 AM. Opposition members raised slogans and displayed placards, pressing for the withdrawal of the SIR in Bihar. Despite Speaker Om Birla’s repeated appeals to allow the Question Hour to continue, the ruckus persisted. The Speaker expressed concern over the conduct of the MPs, stating that the public was watching their behavior in the House.
After an initial adjournment, the Lok Sabha reconvened at noon, only to witness a continuation of the uproar. During this brief session, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya managed to introduce the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025. However, Zero Hour could not proceed as opposition MPs stormed the well of the House, prompting Presiding Officer Sandhya Ray to adjourn proceedings until 2:00 PM.
The Rajya Sabha faced a similar scene. When the Upper House met at 11:00 AM, opposition parties demanded an urgent discussion on the Bihar electoral roll revision. Deputy Chairman Harivansh informed the House that 25 adjournment notices had been submitted by parties such as Congress, TMC, and DMK. Citing a previous ruling, he rejected the notices, urging the House to proceed with Zero Hour.
Despite his appeals, the opposition members continued their protests. Rajya Sabha reconvened at noon following an earlier adjournment but again descended into chaos, forcing Chairperson Ghanshyam Tiwari to adjourn the House till 2:00 PM.
