In a swift operation, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel successfully stopped an attempt to smuggle exotic wildlife across the Indo-Bangladesh border on the night of September 24. Acting on specific intelligence, troops from the Amudiya Border Outpost (BOP), 143rd Battalion, intercepted the smuggling of four Chinese Golden Pheasants, rare birds native to the mountainous regions of western China.
The BSF had received credible information about the illegal transport of these birds from Bangladesh into India. Based on the tip-off, BSF personnel set up an ambush at the suspected location near the International Border Fence (IBB). Around 8:35 PM, the team spotted suspicious movements by two individuals near the border. When challenged by the troops, the suspects fled back to Bangladesh, leaving behind plastic bags.
Upon searching the area, BSF recovered two bags containing the four Chinese Golden Pheasants, which had been targeted by wildlife smugglers. The birds were immediately taken into BSF custody.
The rescued birds were handed over to the Forest Department in Basirhat for further legal proceedings and rehabilitation.
A BSF spokesperson from the South Bengal Frontier commended the timely action of the force, emphasizing that the operation not only prevented the smuggling of endangered wildlife but also demonstrated the BSF’s ongoing efforts to safeguard India’s borders and combat illegal wildlife trade. The spokesperson reaffirmed the BSF’s commitment to preserving the nation’s rich biodiversity while protecting its borders.
Great job Border Security Force (BSF)!
