Guwahati, August 4: In a landmark move for India’s industrial digitalization, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the country’s first 5G Captive Non-Public Network (CNPN) for the refinery sector. The project, a pioneering initiative in Assam, aims to revolutionize industrial operations through next-generation connectivity.
Announcing the collaboration, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the partnership as a “proud moment for Assam,” calling it a key step forward for #DigitalAssam and #AtmanirbharBharat. “This will bring IoT, AR/VR, and Big Data into the heart of our industrial growth,” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The 5G private network will be deployed within NRL’s refinery operations to enable real-time data analytics, enhance automation, and integrate cutting-edge technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), and Big Data analytics.
Officials from both BSNL and NRL expressed confidence that the successful implementation of this pilot could pave the way for broader deployment of 5G private networks across other industries in India, particularly in the energy and manufacturing sectors.
