IMPHAL, Feb 24 (Newmai News Network): Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan has cleared the construction of 5,000 houses in Manipur for internally displaced persons under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY–G).
The approval for the 2025–26 financial year followed a meeting between Chouhan and Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh in New Delhi. Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho were also present.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, the proposal was submitted earlier this month as a special project to rehabilitate families displaced by the recent law and order crisis.
The Ministry has also opened a special Awass+ 2024 survey window to record details of eligible households. The State has been permitted to continue registration of beneficiaries under the scheme, subject to PMAY–G guidelines and verification through the Awass+ 2024 mobile application.
The Centre further allowed sanction of houses for eligible beneficiaries whose earlier PMAY–G homes were damaged during the violence, including those who had already received assistance in instalments. Construction will follow the prescribed norms under the scheme’s framework for implementation.
