AGARTALA, Dec 2: Tripura is set to witness a major expansion in its medical education and healthcare infrastructure as the Ministry of AYUSH has approved ₹140 crore for establishing an Ayurveda Medical College and a Homoeopathy Medical College in the state.
A high-level review meeting convened after the approval discussed key components of the project, including land availability, infrastructure planning, faculty recruitment and compliance with regulatory norms. Authorities aim to begin academic sessions from the next year, subject to timely completion of requirements.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha welcomed the decision and extended gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, and AYUSH Minister Prataprao Yadav for their support in strengthening Tripura’s healthcare ecosystem. He said the move would significantly boost opportunities for students pursuing traditional medicine while improving healthcare delivery across the region.
Officials noted that the two upcoming institutions will help meet the rising demand for skilled professionals in Ayurveda and Homoeopathy, bolster public health services, and expand Tripura’s medical education landscape.
